We’re Encouraging Farmers to Plant & Manage Trees Our Way

The Tree-Planting Problem

Tree-planting has been strongly encouraged by the Welsh Government, but most farmers don’t see the benefits - and for good reasons.

Many options within the proposed Sustainable Farming Scheme feel restrictive, poorly aligned with commercial farming, and offer payments that don’t reflect long-term costs or lost productive land.

A Different Approach

We’re not asking farmers to plant trees 'for the Government'. We’re building a system where trees actively support farm productivity and every tonne of biomass grown contributes to long-term carbon storage through biochar production, generating CLOC income for farmers.

Resulting in tree planting that genuinely works for farming businesses & policy targets, at the same time

Your Trees Don't Cost, They Earn

Under our system, trees are planted for growth, as well as for habitat. Every branch, stem and pole produced can be converted into biochar. This means:

  • Trees generate tradeable CLOC certificates
  • Additional recurring income from biomass harvest
  • Trees as long-term low-risk crop, not regulatory burden

Biomass → Biochar → CLOCs
Generating Direct Farm Income

The SFS pays farmers to plant and maintain, but doesn't create ongoing revenue from tree growth.

Our system does.  Every kilogram of biomass grown becomes long-term carbon storage and generates CLOC income, turning natural growth into a yearly or periodic revenue stream.

Our system means tree-management is financially meaningful over decades, not just at the planting stage.

Agroforestry + Woodlands + Hedgerows

Working Together As One Connected System

A Whole-Farm Approach That Strengthens Your Land

Every tree, hedge and woodland contributes to both the farm and the wider climate value chain.

By combining new agroforestry lanes, improved woodland management and strengthened hedgerows, farmers create a resilient, productive landscape that:

  • grows high-quality biomass
  • improves water, soil and livestock conditions
  • stabilises fields against extreme weather
  • supports pollinators and biodiversity
  • produces material for biochar → CLOC income

Benefits, Beyond Carbon

We support you every step of the way & make sure you can make the most of your farm's decarbonised potential

Agroforestry

Improving Farm Output, Not Replacing It

Farmers sometimes resist tree schemes because they fear lost productivity. Our agroforestry designs & management do the the opposite, and are built around productivity first, carbon second.

  • Better Grass Growth
  • Improved Animal Performance
  • Reduced drought and wind stress
  • Healthier soils and fewer inputs
Existing Biomass

Woodland and Hedgerow Management Becomes a Profit Centre

Rather than 'environmental obligations', your existing hedges and woodlands become biomass assets. This is a major difference from the Sustainable Farming Scheme, which pays for maintenance but not for the value generated from the material itself.

Through sensible coppicing, thinning and rotational management, you can:

  • Improve habitat and shelter
  • Regenerate vigorous new growth
  • Produce a steady stream of biomass
  • Earn CLOC income with every cycle
Farmer Focussed

You Stay In Control, No External Land-Use Pressures

A common reason farmers reject government planting schemes is fear of: long-term land-use restrictions, loss of agricultural status, bureaucracy or a mixture of inspections and penalties.

Our programme avoids these problems by:

  • Keeping tree planting flexible and farm-specific
  • Integrated designs that retain agricultural use
  • Avoiding rigid habitat-classification rules
  • Giving farmers control over species, layout and long-term management
Any farm, any scale

Works With All Farm Types Without Disruption

Because our integrated systems are designed to support production, not replace it, they work on:

  • Dairy Farms Shade, shelter, clean tracks, better grass recovery
  • Beef Farms Healthier cattle, more stable grazing land
  • Sheep Farms Reduced lamb losses, lower parasite pressure
  • Mixed Farms Crop protection, livestock shelter, biomass lanes
Net Zero

Welsh Net-Zero Goals, On Farmers’ Terms

We’re not just meeting policy targets, we’re building a farmer-led climate solution with economic value.

Our system still delivers the carbon sequestration Wales needs, but in a way that:

  • Respects farm business priorities
  • Rewards farmers fairly
  • Keeps land productive
  • Creates physical, long-term carbon storage

Start Farming Carbon

Whether you're managing 5, 50 or 5,000 hectares, integrating carbon removal into your farming business needs practical support rooted in genuine agricultural experience.

Our goal is to maximise the long-term value & productivity of your land, with a farmer-first approach that prioritises fair pricing, minimal disruption to existing operations, and building resilient income streams that strengthen your farm for the next generation.
